Our Team of Teachers

Mrs. Andrew
Hello! My name is Kerri-Lynn Andrew and I am so excited to begin my 5th year at BRE teaching 5th grade!! After several years as a primary teacher and specialist,  positions including 1st grade, 2nd grade, Kindergarten, Reading Specialist and Literacy Coach, I’ve decided to jump into intermediate and couldn’t be happier!

A little more about me... I was born and raised in Rhode Island,  (GO PATS! Sorry Broncos fans!). I have been married 18 years to my husband Brent. I am a mom of three. My daughter Rylee is fifteen, my son Brady is twelve and my son Bryce is ten. We also have a high energy and lovable husky mix named Roxie. In addition to teaching, I enjoy hiking, cooking and running.

How did we get out to Colorado, you ask?  Here’s the  abridged version...

After earning my Bachelors in Elementary Education and Spanish, and marrying my college sweetheart, I moved out to Fort Carson, CO to begin my teaching career and life married to an  Army officer. From Ft. Carson, we moved to four different states (I taught in each!), endured two Iraq deployments, with the birth of our baby girl mixed in there.  After the bittersweet decision to leave the Army, we took a leap into civilian life and settled in the Denver area.  And...we have been here ever since! My two boys are native Coloradans : )

When it comes to teaching...My passion is to guide students to unlock their unique strengths and gifts while challenging them to become independent thinkers, problem solvers and  innovators.  I believe in delivering a learning experience that is connected to real life so students can see how our work together is part of the larger picture of their life’s path and success.  Developing strong relationships and a strong sense of community where all students are valued is at the core of my approach.  I am extremely grateful to be part of such a supportive and caring school community and look forward to another wonderful year at BRE!

My name is Sierra Chartier and I am very excited to begin my fourteenth year of teaching and my third year here at Buffalo Ridge Elementary! I am looking forward to getting to know your child, as well as you. I believe in strong communication to be able to meet the needs of my students. I am pleased to be able to work for such a supportive and highly performing school.

I live in Parker, Colorado with the love of my life, Jason, and our 4 children: Jaden (15), Aason (15), Austin (13), and Adysen (11).  When I am not teaching I like to stay active outside: camping, hiking, skiing, swimming, and spending time with friends and family.

I graduated in May 2007 with my Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies majoring in English from the University of Northern Colorado. I worked in a program that allowed me to be in the schools every morning and attend college courses in the afternoon. This program supported hands-on learning and I was able to take the knowledge I obtained and apply it directly into the classroom. This program gave me the confidence to enter the teaching field with high expectations for myself and my students.

After teaching for several years, I decided to return to school and obtain my Masters Degree in Administration. This learning allowed me to gain a different perspective and it supported my continued growth in the education world. I graduated with this degree in December of 2015.

Some information you might find helpful about the fifth grade curriculum: This year in Social Studies we will focus on American History 1491-1781, U.S. Government, and States and Regions. This is a great way for the students to get to know about the wonderful country we live in. In Science we will learn many different concepts in the following units of studies: Physical, Earth, Life Sciences.

My teaching philosophy stems from an individualized learning approach. I pride myself on creating meaningful positive relationships with all students, in order to meet their specific needs. Once I get to know your child, I can teach them their strengths in order for them to succeed and strive to the best of their ability.

Along with all of the learning we will be doing, we will be having a daily snack. Please have your child bring a nutritious snack for a boost of energy. I do not allow candy, soda, or other sugary snacks. Please have your child bring a water bottle to keep in the classroom to keep hydrated and cool during the school day. I will be sending the water bottles home every day in order for them to get a “bath.”

The students and I will come up with our classroom expectations as a team. I know that this will be a successful year for all of us and I am looking forward to working with you and your child. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to email me at: [email protected] or call me at school: (303) 387-5575.

Ms. Powers

My name is Meghan Powers and I am so happy to be working with you and your child for the 20-21 school year! Here is a little bit of information about myself! I grew up in Colorado and then moved to Omaha, Nebraska to attend Creighton University. Nebraska will always have a special place in my heart because it is there that I began my teaching career with 6th grade in Omaha Public Schools. After four amazing years of working in Omaha, a move back to Colorado was in store.

I currently live in Denver with my fiancé, Matt.  We love to keep busy outside with activities like hiking, camping, or walking the dog. Aside from teaching, spending time with family and friends is my top priority.

I am very excited to begin my seventh year of teaching and my third year here at Buffalo Ridge Elementary! I am looking forward to getting to know your child, as well as you. My core philosophies in education revolve around building relationships and collaboration. When a student steps into my classroom I want them to feel welcomed, cared for, and supported. They will know that I value their opinions, ideas, and that their voice will be heard. I focus on collaborating with the students to develop a classroom environment that supports the BRE “A-HERD” motto. As a group we will work together to come up with our behavior expectations & norms that we will follow throughout the school year. Students will know that we are not just a class, we are a community of learners all working together to achieve our goals!
